Jane McGrath a Model Mum
June 22nd 2008 08:12
Tonight I join the many Australians who are immensely saddened by the passing of Jane McGrath. At age 42 this beloved wife and mother died from surgery complications after beating breast cancer, then bravely battling secondary cancer in her hip and brain.
We’ve watched her decade-long journey through illness and health and today we’ve lost someone very special.
The inspiration and hope Jane gave to so many people is something her loved ones can be very proud of.
Jane represented strength, courage, determination, love, dignity, devotion and the spirit of positivity. She was driven by her own breast cancer experience to help countless others through the McGrath Foundation, the charity she created with her husband, Glenn and best friend Tracy.
For me she also presented a fine example of how a family should work. Whenever she spoke to the media – about her illness, her charity foundation or the challenges associated with balancing family time with her husband’s international cricket career - she always asserted that her family was the most important thing in her life. What a great message to remember when life takes unexpected turns: family can always come first.
In celebration of Jane’s life we’ll no doubt see many tributes that are complimentary, wide reaching and heart felt. And very well deserved.
The McGrath Foundation aims to educate young women to be ‘breast aware’ as well as raising money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses.
