Summer Vacation! Whoo!
June 3rd 2010 02:09
Summer vacation in our school district starts in a day and a half, and it can't come quick enough! Everyone of course is telling me how lucky I am to have the summer off and how much they wish they could slack off all summer.
Side note: teachers hate that. I could write a whole post on that, but it would probably turn into more of a rant.
But I definitely won't have much time to slack off this summer. Over summer vacation we only send my son to daycare two days a week, and he's with me the other three. I'm hoping to teach him the alphabet this summer, and some basic words depending on how well he picks up on it. He can sing the alphabet song, but doesn't really know what it means or what the letters are. I'm looking forward to it-one of the reasons I work in education is seeing kids figure things out for the first time. And speaking of figuring things out, I'm also hoping to work on potty training more. The daycare works on it with him, and I'm hoping to keep the routine going at home.
The days he's at daycare, my wife generally writes me out a massive honey-do list. Which will be even bigger now since because of the pregnancy she's often too tired to do much after work. At least the morning sickness is wearing off, for the most part. Anyone who's read some of my earlier posts knows the past few months have been pretty rough on that front! Still, I feel like a jerk if I don't do the lists.
So slacking off won't be a big part of my summer vacation. I'm looking forward to the extra time with my son, and hoping to teach him a lot. I really like the days he's at daycare too, though...I can get things done on those days!
